The Fiat 600 was a city car produced from 1955 to 1969. Measuring only 3.22 m (126 in) long, it was the first rear-engined Fiat. Two main variants were built, the 600, 600D and Multipla.

The 600D was launched in autumn 1960, the main changes were  and increased engine capacity (767cc),  swivelling quarter lights on the doors and an increased number or louvres on the engine lid and from 1964 front hinged doors as opposed to the 600’s “suicide doors”. More information can be found on the Specifications page.

For the 1965 Turin motor show the final version of the 600D included a larger fuel tank that spanned across the front compartment,  a new badge, the larger style headlamps, no trim on the side of the car and no cartridge oil filter.

During 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, the car became very popular in countries such as Spain (as Seat 600), where it became the icon par excellence of the Spanish miracle, and Argentina, where it was nicknamed Fitito. The total number produced from 1955 to 1969 at the Mirafiori plant was 2,604,000 and under license over 4,000,000.
